How can I upgrade my Surftab to Windows 10?  

We strongly recommend only performing the upgrade using the Windows 10 symbol on your display. The symbol is located in the bottom-right area in the system tray on the task bar. Tapping the symbol opens a window where you can reserve Windows 10 for your Surftab. Once you have reserved Windows 10, you will be placed on the Windows 10 waiting list and Microsoft will inform you as soon as Windows 10 is available for your device and/or as soon as your device is next in line.

 

IMPORTANT: It is essential that you have sufficient storage space on your Surftab to install Windows 10! The installation cannot be performed if your device does not have sufficient storage space. For this reason, we strongly recommend using a 16 GB memory card to install Windows 10. Please remain connected to a power source during the installation of Windows 10.

 

If, despite the power adapter being connected, your device still has a free USB port (for example, the Surftab wintron 10.1 features two USB ports and a separate charging socket), you can use a USB-Stick with the appropriate capacity for the upgrade instead of a storage card.

Where do I find the upgrade symbol on my display if I want to upgrade to Windows 10?  

Please be patient for a little while longer. Microsoft is rolling out Windows 10 in accordance with specific, technical rules and following careful examination. This may take some time.

Why is the image structure of my Surftab wintron under Windows 10 not that responsive?  

If your image is not smooth, it is likely because your device lacks important drivers. You must perform specific updates in order to install these drivers. To do so, proceed as follows:

a) Open the start menu by tapping the Windows icon in the bottom left of the display.

b) Open the settings by tapping the cog wheel symbol in the bottom left corner of the Start menu.

c) Scroll through the setting until you reach the „Update & security“ menu item and tap it.

d) Tap „Windows Update“. All available updates are displayed.

e) Select the following update from the list of available updates and install it:

 „Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) HD Graphics

Why does my touchpanel not work properly anymore? Although I'm typing on a specific location, the panels registers the touch elsewhere.  

An optional Microsoft update for the touch Panel driver "Silead" currently in circulation is not compatible with the following TREKSTOR devices:

Surftab wintron 7.0
Surftab wintron 10.1 pure

If you have installed this driver update during the last update on your Surftab. the function of your touchpanel will be disturbed, whereby touch inputs are misinterpreted. To disable the troublesome driver update, proceed as follows:

a) Use a USB host adapter cable to connect a mouse to the wintron 7.0 micro USB port. With the wintron 10.1 pure you can close the mouse directly to the USB 2.0 port of the wintron 10.1 pure.

Then use the mouse to navigate to device manager as follows:

b) Switch to the desktop view by clicking on the desktop tile in the home screen.

c) In the desktop view, right-click on "This PC". It opens a drop-down menu.

d) Click on "Manage" in the drop-down menu. The computer management opens.

e) Click on "Device Manager" (found under "System") in the left column. In the middle column the device manager opens.

f) In the middle column, double-click on the entry "Input devices". It opens a list with all installed drivers.

g) Right-click on "KMDF HID Minidriver for Touch I2C Device". It opens a drop-down menu.

h) Click on "Properties". It opens a separate window.

i) Click on the second tab "driver" in this window. The Driver options are displayed.

j) Click on the button "Previous driver" and confirm your choice with "Yes".

k) Click the "Close" button and exit the device manager.

After a few moments, the switch to the previous version of the driver is completed and you can use your tablet again as usual.

How do I activate my 60 free Skype minutes?  

The basic prerequisite for using the Skype minutes included in your Office 365 Personal package is that your Office package has been activated (see Operating instructions). Once you have activated your Office package, proceed as follows:

a) Go to http://office.microsoft.com/ and click or tap “My account” in the top-right area.

b) On the following page, sign in with the Microsoft account that you linked to your Surftab wintron tablet when setting it up (it is extremely important that you sign in with the same Microsoft account that is linked on the Surftab!)

c) An overview of your Microsoft account opens. In the “Services and products” section, under “Skype”, click or tap “Activate your Skype world minutes”.

d) On the following page, you can choose whether to create a new Skype account or link an existing Skype account with your Microsoft account (in order to use the free 60 minutes on your existing account). Select the desired option and click or tap “Create Skype account” (to create a new account) or “Activate” (to link your existing Skype account).

Why is the mobile internet connection interrupted on my surftab wintron (3G) despite good reception?  

Most online rates are so-called "metered connections": If a certain amount of data is used up, the connection slows down or, depending on the rate, users has to pay additional expenses.
In order to protect you from these unwanted expenses, from the start your wintron is set in a way that the Internet connection on your mobile automatically disturbs, after the included data volume is consumed.
If you want to change this setting, do the following steps:

a) Change to the Home screen on your Surftab by tapping the Windows key.
b) Open the Charm Bar by sweeping with your finger from the right edge of the screen to the inside.
c) Tap in the Charm bar on “Settings“.
d) Now tap at the bottom right on “Change PC settings“.
e) Now tap on “Network“ and then on “Connecions“.
f) Tap on the connection you want to modify and deactivate at "Mobile braodband" the option “Set as metered connection“.

Where do I find the Office tile on my start screen?  

Open the application menu and drag up the Start screen there. Check under “M“, if you can find there the application “Microsoft Office“.
If you have already activated Office or if  the point “Microsoft Office“ cannot be found in the application menu under “M“, please drag the application menu to the left until you see the point “Microsoft Office 2013“. You will find here under “Microsoft Office 2013“ all the installed Office programs.

How do I use the Bluetooth® function on my wintron?  

a) Activate the Bluetooth function on the device you want to connect and make the device visible to other devices, if necessary. To do so, refer to the operating instructions of the device you would like to connect.

b) Tap the Windows button to switch to the start screen of your Surftab.

c) Open the Charm Bar by swiping your finger inwards from the right hand edge of the screen.

d) Tap “Settings“ in the Charm Bar.

e) Now tap “Change PC settings“ in the bottom right area.

f) Tap “PC and devices“ on the left and then tap “Bluetooth“ on the left.

g) Now slide the slider for Bluetooth from left to right in the middle of the screen. The word “On“ now appears next to the slider. This activates the SurfTab Bluetooth function and the Surftab searches for available devices nearby.

h) Select the device you would like to connect from the list of devices available by tapping the name of the device. Now tap “Pair“.

i) The Surftab sends a verification code to the device to be connected. Check that the code displayed on the device to be connected matches the code displayed on the Surftab and confirm with “Yes“ on the Surftab.

-> You may also have to confirm the pairing procedure on the device to be connected.

j) The status report “Connected“ appears under the selected device after successful pairing.

k) Exit the device settings by pressing the Windows button.

l) Open the Surftab file browser and go to the file that you would like to send.

m) Press and hold the files you want to send until a drop-down window appears. Select the “Send to“ option in this window and then tap “Bluetooth device“. A list of all paired Bluetooth devices appears.

n) Tap the desired device and confirm with “Next“. The Surftab now sends the selected file to the desired device.

o) You may also have to confirm receipt of the file on the destination device.

-> After a successful file transfer, deactivate the Bluetooth function on the Surftab (and your destination device) to save energy.

How can I reset my wintron to the factory settings?  

a) Connect the Surftab to a plug using charging device to ensure that there is a sufficient power supply during the restore process.

b) Tap the Windows button to switch to the start screen.

c) Open the Charm Bar by swiping your finger inwards from the right hand edge of the screen.

d) Tap “Settings“ in the Charm Bar.

e) Now tap “Cange PC settings“ in the bottom right area.

f) Tap “Update and recovery“ in the bottom left area and then “Recovery“ (left of the screen).

g) The message “Advanced startup“ appears in the middle of the screen. Tap “Restart now“.

h) A row of options appears a moment later. Tap the “Troubleshoot“ option.

i) Now select the “Reset your PC“ option to fully reset the Surftab.

-> NOTE: All the files that you have stored (photos, text files, bookmarks and so on) and the settings that you have specified (language, background, passwords and so on) will be deleted!

j) Confirm the “Reset your PC“ message with “Next“.

k) Select “Fully clean the drive“ in the following screen and then confirm with “Reset“.

-> The Surftab now begins to load the factory settings. This process can take several minutes. Do not switch off the device during this period!

-> After the Surftab has been wiped and reset to the factory settings, the Setup Assistant appears and can be used to set up your Surftab once again.

How can I perform Windows Updates on my wintron?  

Your Surftab checks for new updates daily. If you selected the “Use express settings“ option in the Start Assistant when you switched on for the first time, the wintron automatically performs available updates when you shutdown (download and installation).
If you would like to deactivate automatic updates, you can change this setting at a later point in time:

a) Tap the Windows button to switch to the start screen.

b) Open the Charm Bar by swiping your finger inwards from the right hand edge of the screen.

c) Tap “Settings“ in the Charm Bar.

d) Now tap “Change PC settings“ in the bottom right area.

e) Tap “Update and recovery“ in the bottom left area and then “Choose how updates get installed“ (centre of the screen).

f) Now select how the Surftab should proceed with updates in the future under “Important updates“.

-> You can also determine how other forms of updates (“Recommended updates“ and “Microsoft Update“) should be treated further down on the same screen.

g) Confirm your selection with “Apply“.

How can I move files from my computer to my wintron?  

You need an external storage device such as a USB-Stick to exchange files between your wintron and a computer.

a) Connect the USB-Stick to your computer and move the desired file onto the USB-Stick.

b) Remove the USB-Stick from the computer and insert the USB-Stick into the USB A port on the SurfTab.

c) Tap the Windows button to switch to the start screen.

d) Tap the live tile with the file symbol on the bottom left area of the start screen. The desktop view appears and the file browser opens.

e) Tap “This PC“ on the left in the file browser. All of the available drivers and folders are displays.

f) Tap the USB-Stick twice to select it. All of the files stored on the stick are displayed.

g) Press and hold the desired files until a drop-down window appears. Tap “Copy“ in the drop-down window.

h) Now tap “This PC“ again on the left in the file browser.

i) Open the desired destination folder by tapping twice.

j) Tap a free area in the folder and hold there until the drop-down window appears.

k) Tap the “Paste“ function in the drop-down window. The file is copied to the selected folder.

l) Go back to the drive overview (“This PC“), tap the USB-Stick and hold it until a drop-down window appears.

m) Tap “Eject“ in the drop-down window to safely remove the USB-Stick and avoid any data loss.

How do I download apps from the Windows Store?  

The Windows Store is available as a live tile on the first or second page of the start screen. You can identify the Windows Store by its icon, a shopping bag featuring the Windows logo.
The following two requirements must be met in order to access the Windows Store:

1. You must be connected to the Internet.

- Please connect your SurfTab®
wintron 10.1 3G pure  with the internet.

2. You must be logged in to your Microsoft account.

-> Ideally, you have created a Microsoft account or logged in using your existing account during the setting-up process when you first switched on your SurfTab®
wintron 10.1 3G pure . In this case, all you have to do is open the Windows Store, select the desired app and tap “Install“.

-> If you still do not have a Microsoft account or are not logged into it, you must perform these steps. Open the Windows Store and select the desired app. Tap the app and then tap “Install“. The Setup Assistant now appears to guide you through the process of setting up a Microsoft account.

-> If you set up a Microsoft account and link it to your SurfTab®
wintron 10.1 3G pure , the password for unlocking the SurfTab®
wintron 10.1 3G pure changes. From now on, you have to enter the password for your Microsoft account to unlock the device.

How can I connect my wintron (3G) to the Internet?  

Connecting the wintron to a wireless network “WiFi”

a) Tap the Windows button to switch to the start screen.

b) Open the Charm Bar by swiping your finger inwards from the right hand edge of the screen.

c) Tap “Settings“ in the Charm Bar.

d) Now tap the WiFi symbol (5 vertical bars) in the bottom right area.

-> A list of all of the available wireless networks appears.

e) Tap the network that you wish to connect to.

-> If you do not want the Surftab to automatically connect to the selected network if available, remove the check mark next to “Connect automatically“.

f) Now tap “Connect“ and enter the relevant network key (refer to the documents from your provider or look on the back of your router).

g) Confirm with “Next“. The Surftab will connect to the selected network.

 

Connecting the wintron to a mobile network

a) Remove the cover from the micro SIM card slot and insert a micro SIM card into the micro SIM card slot.

-> Be sure to select the correct direction of insertion (illustrated on the card slot.)

b) Tap the Windows button to switch to the start screen.

c) Open the Charm Bar by swiping your finger inwards from the right hand edge of the screen.

d) Tap “Settings“ in the Charm Bar.

e) Now tap the WiFi symbol (5 vertical bars) in the bottom right area.

-> A list of all of the available wireless networks appears.

f) Move the “WiFi“ slider from “On“ to “Off“ (from right to left).

g) Move the slider for the mobile Internet connection (“Mobile broadband“) from “Off“ to “On“ (from left to right).

-> The Surftab now reads the SIM card and establishes a connection. This may take some time.

h) Now enter the PIN belonging to the inserted card into the corresponding window and confirm your entry.

-> You can now surf the Internet as usual using a browser.

Which eBook formats are compatible with my SurfTab®
wintron 10.1 3G pure (Windows)?  

You need to download an app in the Windows Store in order to be able to read e-books on your SurfTab®
wintron 10.1 3G pure. You can specifically search for free apps to display e-books. The functions of the selected app will determine which e-book formats you can read on your Surftab.

What solutions do I have if my SurfTab®
wintron 10.1 3G pure is not responding?  

If you can no longer use the SurfTab®
wintron 10.1 3G pure or if the device no longer responds to input, reset the device. Press and hold down the on/off button until the device switches off. Wait for about 20 seconds and then turn the device on normally.

How do I add more storage space to my SurfTab®
wintron 10.1 3G pure?  

Your SurfTab®
wintron 10.1 3G pure has a memory card slot. Insert a card in order to add internal storage to it. Please consult the technical details of your device to learn which cards are compatible with it (in the technical data on the website (most up to date) or in the detailed operating instructions). These cards can be purchased in any electronics store.

Please note that it is not possible to guarantee 100 per cent compatibility of microSD cards (see “Why doesn’t my device recognise my microSD memory card?”).

When I try to set up a Microsoft account or connect my Surftab to a Microsoft account, the error code „0x800b0101" appears. What can I do?  

This error code appears when a different date and/or a different time is set locally on your Surftab, than the time or date, which the Internet provides when trying to connect to a Microsoft account. To fix this error, please proceed as follows:

a) Tap the Windows button to switch to the start screen.

b) Open the Charm Bar by swiping your finger inwards from the right hand edge of the screen.

c) Tap “Settings“ in the Charm Bar.

d) Now tap “Change PC settings“ in the bottom right area.

e) Tap left on “Time and language“.

f) Now pull the slider for “Set time automatically“ in the center of the screen from “On“ to “Off“ and back again to “ON“.

-> Should the slider here already be on “Off“ simply push it onto “On“. 

g) The Surftab now synchronizes its local date and time settings with the information provided by the Internet. When this process is complete, you can link your Surftab to a Microsoft account as desired.
