How can I move files from my computer to my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE? (Windows 10)  

You need an external storage device such as a USB-Stick to exchange files between your SurfTab® duo W1 LTE and a computer.

a) Connect the USB-Stick to your computer and move the desired file onto the USB-Stick.
b) Remove the USB-Stick from the computer and insert the USB-Stick into the corresponding port on the SurfTab.
c) The SurfTab recognizes the USB stick a few moments later. Open the file browser by tapping the file symbol in the task bar.
d) Tap “This PC“ on the left in the file browser. All of the available drivers and folders are displayed.
e) Tap the USB-Stick twice to select it. All of the files stored on the stick are displayed.
f) Press and hold the desired files until a drop-down window appears. Tap “Copy“ in the drop-down window.
g) Now tap “This PC“ again on the left in the file browser and open the desired destination folder by tapping twice.
i) Tap a free area in the folder and hold there until the drop-down window appears.
j) Tap the “Paste“ function in the drop-down window. The file is copied to the selected folder.
k) Go back to the drive overview (“This PC“), tap the USB-Stick and hold it until a drop-down window appears.
l) Tap “Eject“ in the drop-down window to safely remove the USB-Stick and avoid any data loss.

Why doesn’t my Surftab recognise my microSD memory card?  

It is not possible to guarantee 100 per cent compatibility of microSD cards, as they depend on the specifications of two hardware components: those of the microSD memory card reader and those of the microSD memory card.
Due to the large number of different microSD memory cards that have different speed classes and various read and write speed ratings, it is not possible to guarantee one hundred per cent compatibility. As a result, it is possible that the memory card reader will not recognise all microSD cards. 

Why does my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE just switch off sometimes?  

If the energy level of the battery falls below a critical level, the device displays a corresponding warning. If you ignore these warnings, the SurfTab® duo W1 LTE is put into sleep mode at a charge level of 6 per cent in order to counteract total discharge of the battery. Total discharge can lead to a situation where it is no longer possible to charge the device. For this reason, connect the device to the charger at this point at the latest in order to prevent data loss and damage to the battery.

Tip: Reducing screen brightness, closing all programmes or switching off the SurfTab® duo W1 LTE entirely can speed up the process of charging the device.

Please note that the battery discharges itself over time, even when you are not using your device. In order prevent complete discharge of the battery (total discharge) and the associated damage, please charge your device intermittently. Following a total discharge, it is necessary to charge the device for a long period until it is can function properly again. Total discharge can also lead to a situation where it is no longer possible to charge the device. For this reason, it must be avoided at all costs.

If you have not used the SurfTab® duo W1 LTE for a long period of time, charge it for a long period before switching it on again.

Why does my Surftab not charge to a 100 per cent?  

The battery charges normally when it begins the charging process at a battery charge level of below 95 per cent. In this way, it is not continuously charged and its service life increases due to the fact that harmful power surges are prevented.
For this reason, the battery also stops the charging process if the temperature or battery voltage is too high. 

Please note that it is necessary to ‘train’ the battery until it possesses its full potential and battery power is shown to be 100 per cent. The battery level indicator on some devices shows 99 per cent, even though the device is fully charged.

Charging the battery only takes a few hours when the Surftab is switched off, but it takes twice as long if the Surftab remains switched on.

What can I do if my webcam has problems recognizing certain microSD memory cards?  

In order to expand the detection of certain microSD memory cards, we have provided a new BIOS update.
This update can be fone in a few simple steps.

IMPORTANT: This BIOS update is only suitable for Windows Version 1511 (Build 10586.xxx). So before you install the update, be sure to check which version of Windows is installed on your Surftab.

To check the Windows version on your Surftab, do the following:

  1. Tap or click in the search window ("Search Web and Windows") in the lower left corner of the taskbar.
  2. Enter the search term "winver" (without quotation mark!). Next up in the search window appears the result "winver".
  3. Tap on the result. This opens a window with a large Windows 10 logo ("Info").
  4. In the second text line of this window, you will find the information about the Windows version installed on the Surftab.

At this point you see "1511 (Build 10586.xxx)" ? Very good, then the BIOS update "...BIOS_109…" is suitable for your web Surfing and you can download and install it.

Otherwise, please run all Windows updates that are displayed by your web browser.

NOTICE: Do not install this BIOS update if a Version other than "Version 1511 (Build 10586.xxx)" is displayed here.

To install the BIOS update, proceed as follows:

  1. Connect your Surftab to the internet (see user manual).
  2. Go on your Surftab on our website www.trekstor.de and there under "products" to "Surftab duo W1". Click or tap "Download" at the bottom of the product detail page.
  3. Scroll down until you get to "BIOS-Update".
  4. Download the ZIP file "Surftab-duo-W1_BIOS_109_only_for_WinVer-1511_and_Touch-D.zip" and save it on the Desktop of your Surftab.
  5. Switch to the desktop and hold down the downloaded ZIP Folder for about a second, then release. The context menu appears as a drop-down window.
  6. Select the option "Extract all…" in the context menu and choose for the location of the extracted folder again "desktop" (of your Surftab).
  7. Open the extracted "SurfTab-duo-W1_BIOS_109_for_WinVer-1511_+_Touch-Driver", by double-tapping it.
  8. Hold down the file "Install_BIOS-Update-109_+_Touch-Driver_Surftab_duo_W1.bat" for about 1 second, then release. The context menu appears as a drop-down window.
  9. In the context menu, be sure to select "Run as administrator".
  10. Confirm the security check in the following window with "Yes".
  11. The update process starts in a separate DOS sindow. the process takes about 4 minutes.

IMPORTANT: Please wait until the update process is complete before starting any other programs or applications.

1. Once the process is complete, press any key on the keyboard to close the update window.

NOTICE: (Should a red window appear (Info: "GoodixTouchDriver installation failed" or "Access denied"), the process failed and must be repeated. Please make sure that you start the installation file with the option "Run as administrator").


2. Restart the device. To do this, open the start menu and tap "On/Off" => "Restart".


INFORMATION: The restart of the BIOS update takes much longer than a "normal" restart. The TREKSTOR logo will be switched on and off several times and a black screen will appear for a Long time (device works in the background). Please do not turn off the Surftab during the process, nor do press any button. The reboot is complete when the Surfing bar displays the lock screen or prompts you to log in.

3. Now you can use the Surftab as usual.

What do I need to watch out for when installing and removing the keyboard of my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE?  

To remove the SurfTab® duo W1 LTE from the keyboard, please proceed as follows:

a) Fold the tablet upwards until it is standing  at a 90° angle to the keyboard.
b) Holding the keyboard down with one hand, pull the tablet up and away from the keyboard. While doing this, try as far as possible not to press on the keys, but rather on one of the free areas at the keyboard edges.

WARNING
To avoid permanent damage to the display, try as far as possible not to press on it when removing the tablet. Grip the tablet by the edge instead.

-> It is easier to remove the tablet if you pull it up at a slight left or right angle, rather than vertically.

To reconnect the SurfTab® duo W1 LTE to the keyboard, please proceed as follows:

a) Align the hinge fitting on the keyboard so that the tablet dock is pointing vertically upwards.
b) Next, lower the tablet vertically, with its tablet dock resting on the keyboard tablet dock, and press carefully until it locks.

-> The tablet is locked if it cannot be removed vertically upwards from the keyboard without the use of significant force.

What is the Action Center on my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE and how can I launch it? (Windows 10)  

The Action Center is a bar with quick links to some important SurfTab® duo W1 LTE functions, which you can either display or hide. To access the Action Center, swipe your finger from the right edge of the screen towards the centre, or click/tap on the memo symbol in the bottom right hand corner.

-> Among other things, the Action Center includes a quick link to what is known as the "Tablet mode". If you tap on this function, the Start menu is enlarged within the display, making fingertip operation considerably easier.

How do I open the Settings screen for my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE? (Windows 10)  

The button for accessing settings (a cogwheel symbol) can be found in the bottom left corner of the Start menu. Alternatively, you can access settings by opening up the Info Center and tapping on "All settings".

What is the Start menu and how can I use it on my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE? (Windows 10)  

You’re already familiar with the Start menu from your desktop PC at home. It acts as the starting point for all the important contents of your SurfTab® duo W1 LTE. Below you can read some useful information about the Start menu’s basic functions.

Layout of the Start menu
In addition to the straightforward navigation bar found in the "classic" Start menu of older Windows versions, the Start menu of Windows 10 has a useful App field to the right of the navigation bar. Here you can "add" and organise apps and favourites in the form of live tiles. This gives you quick and uncomplicated access to your most frequently used apps and contents.

-> "Underneath" the navigation bar there’s an alphabetically ordered list of all the apps installed. To access this, "drag" the navigation bar upwards or tap on "All apps" in the bottom left of the navigation bar.

Accessing the Start menu
To display the start menu, tap the Windows icon in the bottom left of the display, or press the Windows button on the keyboard. Tapping/pressing a second time hides the Start menu.

-> If you’ve activated tablet mode, all the attached elements from the App field of the Start menu are magnified and distributed across the entire screen. To access the Start menu navigation bar, tap the menu icon in the top left of the screen (three horizontal lines).

Navigating / selecting an element in the Start menu
To select an element (app or favourite) from the SurfTab® duo W1 LTE Start menu or the associated App field, tap the element you want with your finger – or use the keyboard arrow keys to navigate to it – and then press the Enter key on the keyboard.

Adding, organising and removing apps
You have the option of ordering the elements contained in the App field in the form of live tiles (apps and favourites) according to your own preferences, as well as adding new elements or removing those you don’t use.

Adding apps
a) Call up the Start menu.
b) Tap on "All apps" in the bottom left of the Start menu.
c) Scroll to the app you want by swiping the Start menu navigation bar with your finger from top to bottom (or vice versa).

-> Alternatively, you can use the keyboard arrow keys.

d) Keep your finger on the app you want, and drag it to the desired position in the Start menu App field.

Organising and removing apps
To access edit mode for a particular live tile, place your finger on the live tile you want and keep it there until it highlights (the background becomes darker, the live tile stands out visually).

Two edit symbols now appear at the corners of the tile:

To remove the live tile from the Start menu App field, tap the pin symbol in the top right corner of the highlighted tile.
To access further editing options, tap the symbol containing three dots in the bottom left corner of the tile.

How do I use the Bluetooth® function on my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE? (Windows 10)  

a) Activate the Bluetooth function on the SurfTab® duo W1 LTE you want to connect and make the device visible to other devices, if necessary. To do so, refer to the operating instructions of the device you would like to connect.
b) Call up settings.
c) In the settings menu, tap on "Devices". Now tap in the left part of the menu on "Bluetooth".
d) Now slide the slider for Bluetooth from left to right in the middle of the screen. The word “On“ now appears next to the slider.

-> This activates the devices Bluetooth function and the device searches for available devices nearby

e) Select the device you would like to connect from the list of devices available by tapping the name of the device. Now tap “Pair“.
f) The SurfTab® duo W1 LTE sends a verification code to the device to be connected. Check that the code displayed on the device to be connected matches the code displayed on the device and confirm with “Yes“.

-> You may also have to confirm the pairing procedure on the device to be connected.

g) The status report “Connected“ appears under the selected device after successful pairing.
h) Exit the device settings by closing the windows.
i) Open the devices file browser (file symbol in the task bar) and go to the file that you would like to send.
j) Press and hold the files you want to send until a drop-down window appears. Select the “Send to“ option in this window and then tap “Bluetooth device“. A list of all paired Bluetooth devices appears.
k) Tap the desired device and confirm with “Next“. The device now sends the selected file to the desired device.

-> The SurfTab® duo W1 LTE now starts transmission to the selected device.

l) You may also have to confirm receipt of the file on the destination device.

-> After a successful file transfer, deactivate the Bluetooth function on the device (and your destination device) to save energy.

How do I connect my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE to the Internet using WiFi? (Windows 10)  

a) Call up settings.
b) In the settings menu, tap on "Network & Internet".
c) In the next screen, tap on "Wo-Fi" to the left.
d) Drag the WiFi slider from "Off" to "On". The device searches for all available wireless networks in the area and then displays them as a list ("Show available networks").
e) Tap the network that you wish to connect to.

-> If you do not want the device to connect to the selected network automatically (if available), remove the tick next to "Connect automatically".

f ) Tap next on "Connect". The SurfTab® duo W1 LTE now connects to the network selected.

How can I connect an external hard driveto the USB 2.0 sockets of the SurfTab® duo W1 LTE keyboard?  

The USB 2.0 sockets on the keyboard of your SurfTab® duo W1 LTE should only be used to connect USB-Sticks or input devices such a mouse or pointer. Devices such as external hard drives or other high-consumption devices should be connected to the Micro-USB socket on your Surftab.

It is also possible that external hard drives or other high-consumption devices are not recognised by the SurfTab® duo W1 LTE due to insufficient power supply. In this case, connect the device in question (for example, an external hard drive) to a USB hub with an external power supply and connect this to the USB interfaces of your Surftab.

Which eBook formats are compatible with my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE (Windows)?  

You need to download an app in the Windows Store in order to be able to read e-books on your SurfTab® duo W1 LTE. You can specifically search for free apps to display e-books. The functions of the selected app will determine which e-book formats you can read on your Surftab.

How do I download apps with my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE from the Windows Store? (Windows 10)  

The Windows Store is available in the App field of the Start menu. You can identify the Windows Store by its icon, a shopping bag featuring the Windows logo.
The following two requirements must be met in order to access the Windows Store:

1.  You must be connected to the Internet.
-> Follow the instructions under FAQ “ How do I connect my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE to the Internet using WiFi? (Windows 10)“.

2. You must be logged in to your Microsoft account.
Ideally, you have created a Microsoft account or logged in using your existing account during the setting-up process when you first switched on your device. In this case, all you have to do is open the Windows Store, select the desired app and tap “Install“.
If you still do not have a Microsoft account or are not logged into it, you must perform these steps. Open the Windows Store and select the desired app. Tap the app and then tap “Install“. The Setup Assistant now appears to guide you through the process of setting up a Microsoft account.

-> If you set up a Microsoft account and link it to your SurfTab® duo W1 LTE, the password for unlocking the device changes. From now on, you have to enter the password for your Microsoft account to unlock the device.

How do I connect my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE to a television using HDMI®? (Windows 10)  

To connect your SurfTab® duo W1 LTE to a television using HDMI®, you need a suitable cable (ask your local dealer). Please note: the television has to support HDMI® as well. Connect the device and your television using the cable. Using the remote control of your television, now chose the HDMI® port of your television to which you have connected the cable to. The television now shows the display of your device.

How can I install Windows Updates on my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE? (Windows 10)  

Your SurfTab® duo W1 LTE checks for new updates daily. If you selected the “Use express settings“ option in the start assistant when you switched on for the first time, the device automatically runs available updates when you shut down (download and installation).

If you would like to deactivate automatic updates, you can change this setting at a later point in time:

b) Go to Settings.
c) Tap “Update and security“ in the settings menu and then “Windows Update“ in the upper left corner.
d) Press “Further options“ at the centre of the next screen. You can select the method used to install updates here.

How do I add more storage space to my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE?  

Your SurfTab® duo W1 LTE has a memory card slot. Insert a card in order to add internal storage to it. Please consult the technical details of your device to learn which cards are compatible with it (in the technical data on the website (most up to date) or in the detailed operating instructions). These cards can be purchased in any electronics store.

Please note that it is not possible to guarantee 100 per cent compatibility of microSD cards (see “Why doesn’t my device recognise my microSD memory card?”).

What solutions do I have if my SurfTab® duo W1 LTE is not responding?  

If you can no longer use the SurfTab® duo W1 LTE or if the device no longer responds to input, reset the device. Press and hold down the on/off button until the device switches off. Wait for about 20 seconds and then turn the device on normally.

How do I reset my Surftab to the factory settings? (Windows 10)  

a) Connect the Surftab to a plug using charging device to ensure that there is a sufficient power supply during the restore process.

b) Go to Settings.
c) Tap "Update and security" in the settings menu and then "Recovery" on the left.
d) Underneath "Reset this PC" that appears beneath "Get started" and select the method you want to use to reset the SurfTab in the following menus.

-> The restore process may take several hours depending on which method you choose. The Surftab must remain plugged in for the duration of the process. Do not switch the device off unless prompted to do so.
