TrekStor now offering data recovery service at no additional cost

Unique service for external TrekStor hard disk DataStation maxi m.ub unveiled at CeBIT

Lorsch/Hanover, February 15, 2008– TrekStor, the leading vendor of high quality external hard disks, MP3 players and USB sticks will be unveiling the first ever hard disk to include a cost free data recovery service at this year’s CeBIT trade fair. This worldwide unique service is available - at first only in Germany - if the customer is no longer able to access the data on his TrekStor hard disk after it has been dropped or otherwise damaged*. In each individual case, a team of experts will devise a made-to-measure recovery concept in the TrekStor lab. The data recovery service is free of charge during the first 12 months after purchase. From this year’s CeBIT onwards, the service will initially be available for the DataStation maxi m.ub – the packaging of the devices concerned is labeled accordingly with the data recovery service logo. TrekStor will be conducting several data recovery workshops a day at CeBIT at the TrekStor Entertainment Park in Hall 18.

Head crashes & Co – causes of data losses
Hard disks are extremely compact storage devices capable of storing and retrieving large amounts of data. Read/write heads write the data to quickly rotating, magnetically coated disks inside the hard disk unit. In doing so, the read/write heads hover just above the surface of these disks, but never so close as to actually make contact. Only decades of research, ingenious protection mechanisms and the most rigorous manufacturing precision enable such optimally tuned components to be developed, as any contact between the head and disk is enough to destroy both (head crash). Although TrekStor develops its mobile hard disks with these grueling challenges in mind, extreme external effects (such as fire damage, fluid penetration, intense temperature fluctuations, power cuts and damage from electrical surges e.g. from lighting strikes), improper usage (e.g. drops from a great height), software and/or user errors and virus attacks can nevertheless lead to data loss.

Data recovery service included in purchase price for first time
TrekStor has developed a professional data recovery service in its own laboratory for these worst case scenarios. Any customer buying a new, appropriately labeled TrekStor DataStation maxi m.ub can take advantage of this service at no cost within 12 months of purchase. To do this, the customer must register himself online via the TrekStor website at www.trekstor.de/reg within 60 days of purchase. If the customer is then unable to access the data on his hard disk, he submits a detailed online error report to help optimize the results of the data recovery process. The hard disk is then sent to the TrekStor lab – the cost and organization of the transport are borne by TrekStor.

Team of specialists active in professional TrekStor lab
The TrekStor specialists start working on the case as soon as the damaged disk arrives at TrekStor. As the data recovery process always depends on the cause of the error and unique situation at hand, the skilled experts develop a made-to-measure recovery concept for each individual instance. In general, the vast majority of lost data can be reconstructed in the TrekStor lab, specially equipped with professional data recovery software and high precision tools. In the event of mechanical damage to the hard disk, it is often opened in a cleanroom where, in a highly complex process, it undergoes further diagnosis and repair. Because each case needs to be handled individually, the data recovery service cannot be invoked via retailers within the framework of their warranty performance, but only rendered and handled directly via TrekStor.

* Note: Inadvertently or intentionally deleted files and/or folders are excluded from the data recovery service.
